As we look toward the future of theological education in Asia, the Asia Theological Association (ATA) is commencing a strategic leadership transition. With our current General Secretary, Dr. Theresa Lua, planning to transition from her full-time role, the Executive Board has formally initiated the search for her successor.
This is a pivotal moment for our association. We are seeking a visionary leader who will build upon our strong foundation and lead ATA into its next chapter of growth, continuing our mission to serve the Church in equipping the people of God.
The Role: General Secretary
The General Secretary serves as the Chief Executive Officer of ATA, reporting to the Executive Board and General Assembly. The appointee will provide strategic leadership to our network of 394 member institutions across 33 countries.
Key Responsibilities:
As the chief executive, this role combines visionary direction with operational excellence. The General Secretary is responsible for the strategic oversight of the International Office, supervision of Commissions and the AGST Council, and the cultivation of external partnerships and fundraising initiatives to meet ATA’s financial requirements.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a leader of Asian heritage or Asian diaspora currently residing in Asia who possesses:
- Education: A Doctoral degree in a theological discipline (PhD preferred).
- Experience: Substantial teaching experience and senior administrative leadership (e.g., Principal, President, Dean) within Asian theological schools.
- Competencies: Experience with accreditation processes, financial oversight, and cross-cultural ministry.
- Character: A deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and a lifestyle that aligns with biblical principles.
