Getting to Penang

By Air

International flights from selected countries directly into Penang are available. Should you not be able to fly directly to Penang International Airport, transits within Malaysia can be made at KLIA / KLIA2 / Subang airports.

KLIA and KLIA2 are separate airports located nearby but are not connected. Transit between the airports will take between 3 minutes, via the Inter-Terminal Rail Transfer, to 10 minutes, via free shuttle bus or ticketed airport bus. As these airports are considered separate entities, you’ll need to clear immigration procedures before transiting to another.

Please note that the location of Subang Airport is 56 km from KLIA / KLIA2 with a travelling time of 38 mins in smooth traffic. Hence, it is not advisable to book connecting flights from Subang airport unless you plan to stay a few days in KL before coming to Penang.

Another option would be to transit in our neighboring country, Singapore via Changi Airport. Direct flights from Singapore to Penang are widely available. However, please take note of possible different visa requirements applicable to Singapore.

Please ensure that you have sufficient transit time between flights to ensure smooth travels!

By Land – Trains and Buses

If you are arriving in KL, there are more options available to make your way to Penang.

ETS train services are available from KL to Penang and will take a duration of about 5 hours departing from the main station, KL Sentral (please refer to the link below for alternative stations) to the Butterworth train station, which is the closest station located at the mainland of Penang. There is a need for transfer service to Penang island via ferry services or private hire cars. You can go to KL Sentral from KLIA by bus, train (ERL) or private hire cars.

Train Schedule and Purchase of train tickets are available via the official website : Welcome to the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System

Bus services are also widely available from KL to Penang and will also take approximately 5 – 6 hours in smooth traffic. There are many available options of departing and arriving locations to choose from. Tickets are available for purchase online. Main bus station in KL would be the TBS station located at Bandar Tasik Selatan (reachable by train from KLIA/KLIA2), while the main bus station in Penang Island would be the Sg Nibong Bus Station. The route of bus service from Sg Nibong Bus Station to the hotel is on the same line from the airport. Bus 401 then transit at Komtar for Bus 402 to Jalan Batu Ferringhi. (please refer to detailed route under Getting to the Hotel)
